PROFESSIONAL HISTORY

MY ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES

TEACHING INTERN, WILLIAMSTON HIGH SCHOOL

August 2013 - May 2014

While an intern at Williamston I honed my skills as a chemistry, physics and physical science teacher. I also began my journey into coaching by working with JV football and coaching 8th grade boys basketball.

TEACHER, OWOSSO HIGH SCHOOL

July 2014 - June 2016

As a teacher in Owosso I taught chemistry, honors physics, astronomy/meteorology and spearheaded a new course, conceptual physics, under the IB philosophy. I also was trained in the engineering curriculum Project Lead the Way; specifically Introduction to Engineering Design. I further developed myself as a coach working with football both years, serving as the freshman head coach my second year and coaching track.

TEACHER, OTTAWA HILLS HIGH SCHOOL

August 2016 - Present

Moving to Grand Rapids I stepped into a new building, working with a new demographic of urban students. I strove to keep my goals of relationship building and student development at the forefront of what I do. In this position I have taught physics, chemistry, financial literacy, statistics and chemistry in a new middle college program. I have also coached football for two years, now working with the varsity program.

SECONDARY SCIENCE TEACHER
OWOSSO HIGH SCHOOL

July 2014 - June 2016

Over the course of two years I taught a multitude of physical science courses at Owosso High School. These courses included astronomy/meteorology, chemistry, honors physics and conceptual physics, a new course that I piloted in the district. This had me working with a diverse student population ranging from team taught classes with a special education teacher to advanced students bound for college , including Ivy League bound students. I also participated to be able to teach Introduction to Engineering and Design through Project Lead the Way. In addition to teaching I coached football at the JV and Freshman level and coach as an assistant in track and field. These two roles helped for me to establish a deeper relation with students allowing me to be a more effective teacher.

SECONDARY SCIENCE AND MATHEMATICS TEACHER
OTTAWA HILLS HIGH SCHOOL

August 2016 - Present

Now in my second year at Ottawa Hills High School, an urban neighborhood high school, I have again tackled a multitude of courses. These courses include: physics, honors physics, financial literacy, statistics, chemistry and honors chemistry as part of a new early/middle college program. This has seen me have to be adaptive to a new district curriculum, has helped me to be flexible in teaching mathematics, which I have more limited experience in, and has let me begin to be part of a new one to one technology push as the science curriculum moves to being digital over the course of this year. I addition I have again coached football as part of the freshman and the varsity programs helping me to develop those deeper connections with students.
